SPAMFOO: Is it (or will it be in the future) possible for users or domain managers to access the Spamfoo Dashboard?
Idea shared by Gabriele Maoret - SERSIS - 8/3/2026 at 11:30 PM
In Progress

It would be great if domain administrators could also access the SpamFoo Dashboard to view and control data for their entire domain, and the same for individual users to access their personal data.

Hello Gabriele,

I also couldn't find the SpamFoo dashboard for domain administrators and users, but then I discovered that it only activates if SpamFoo's "Message Classification" is selected for the desired domain.
This is very strange, as they are two different services.

From what I understand, access to the dashboard will be available when either classification or antispam is active for a domain and users. (And, of course, when both are available.) Look for that in a future SpamFoo client update.

I actually tested the classification on a domain and, unfortunately, found it EXTREMELY inaccurate (perhaps because it MAYBE works well for English emails, but we have everything in Italian...).

Furthermore, I don't fully understand the purpose of this classification and what the four tags Primary, Transaction, Updates, and Promotions are supposed to represent.
They seem meaningless to me (perhaps even confusing) for a normal user...

For these reasons, I DON'T WANT to enable it for my clients.

However, I would like the dashboard to be enabled for Domain Admins and Users as well, because I see no reason to disable it if the classification isn't used (and probably never will be...).

We (and our customers) care about antispam, not classification!

Hello Derek,

In fact, the "spamfoo dashboard" is already present in the latest build of SM, even for users:
When emails are classified, access is at the top of the "actions menu" above "Inbox" (at least that's what it looks like to us).
There, you'll find the user's spam statistics and their rules, but currently it's only enabled if the "classification" option is also selected.

Yeah, someone asked about this a week or two ago and the SmarterMail team talked it over and agrees. An upcoming version of SmarterMail will expose the dashboard to users that have anti-spam capabilities but have classifications off. It's in the works now.

While I'm waiting for the new SmarterMail release which will bring the SpamFoo Dashboard for users, I still have a question about the classifications... Could you explain in detail what this means, i.e., what characteristics emails must have to fall into each of these categories?

PRIMARY?
TRANSACTIONS?
UPDATES?
PROMOTIONS?

I'd also add that a classification based on ONLY 4 categories seems a bit reductive...
Are there any plans to make changes to this in the future?

Hi @Gabriele Maoret - SERSIS ,

Thank you for your question.

The purpose of email classification is to group messages into different types. Not all unwanted email is necessarily spam; some messages may instead be considered graymail, such as newsletters, promotions, or other mail that is legitimate but may not be important to the recipient.

SpamFoo attempts to place messages into the most appropriate classification bucket. These classifications can then be used within SmarterMail to organize, sort, and filter your email.

To learn more about how SpamFoo determines a message’s classification, open the three-dot menu in the Webmail section and select About Classifications. This provides additional information about each classification and how messages are categorized. Below is a screenshot of that dialog.
The current limit of four classifications is a limitation within SpamFoo, not within SmarterMail itself. Expanding the available classifications would likely require SpamFoo’s models to be trained to recognize the additional categories, although there may be other implementation approaches available to their development team.

I hope this helps clarify how the classification system works.

Kind regards,

Regarding classification accuracy, SpamFoo has released several updated models over the past few months. If you have not tested it recently, I recommend trying it again, as you may see improved results.
You can also teach your local SpamFoo instance by moving a message from one classification to another. This correction is learned immediately by your local instance and may also be used to help improve the global model over time.

Hello Zach,

Are Spamfoo updates installed automatically when they're released? Or do we have to do something?

Thank you
